    Oil drill pipe is a seamless steel pipe with threads at the tail, which is used to connect the surface equipment of the drilling rig and the drilling and grinding equipment or bottom hole device at the bottom of the well. In order to strengthen the connection strength between the pipe body and the joint, the two ends of the drill pipe body are upset and thickened. The API standard divides the thickening form into three types: internal thickening, external thickening and internal and external thickening.

    Oil drill pipe is mainly used in the construction of deep wells, horizontal wells and large displacement wells in the process of oil and gas exploration and development.

    The purpose of the drill pipe is to transport drilling mud to the drill bit and raise, lower or rotate the bottom hole device together with the drill bit. The drill pipe must be able to withstand huge internal and external pressure, twisting, bending and vibration. In the process of oil and gas extraction and refining, the drill pipe can be used many times. The length of the drill pipe is generally about nine meters.

    There are three basic working conditions of the drill pipe underground: tension, compression and rotation. When pulling out of the hole, the drill pipe is in a tensile state, and a 5” drill pipe can be stretched to about 1m/1000m; when drilling down, the drill pipe is in a compressed state, and the compression is related to the drilling pressure; during rotary drilling, the drill pipe rotates with the ground drive system, and the part above the neutral point is under tension, and the part below the neutral point is under compression; during directional drilling, the drill pipe is in a stationary state, and the part above the neutral point is under tension, and the part below the neutral point is under compression; when reaming: the drill pipe is in a rotating state and under tension.

    The drill pipe is the worst condition in drilling operations. In addition to the torque, it is also subject to the tensile stress generated by the weight of the drill string itself, and this stress increases as it goes up. The drill collar is a more important component of the drill string, which has the function of providing drilling pressure to the drill bit and improving the rigidity of the drill string.

    Heavy weight drill pipe is a type of drill pipe whose walls are thicker and collars are longer than conventional drill pipe.

Features of weighted drill pipe:

    The weighted (thick-walled) drill pipe produced and sold by our company, Huichi Petro, is made of thick-walled steel pipes. It has extra-long externally thickened joints at both ends, and there is also a part of externally thickened joints in the middle. The outer diameter is the same as that of ordinary drill pipes. Just increasing its wall thickness makes the pipe body 2-3 times heavier than ordinary drill pipe.

Use:

  1.Used to replace part of drill collars in directional drilling, which can adapt to wellbore curvature and reduce the chance of differential pressure stuck.

  2.The transition section between drill collar and drill pipe reduces drill string fatigue damage;

  3.It replaces part of the drill collar and facilitates tripping. Therefore, under the same large hook load capacity, it can significantly increase the drillable depth of wells drilled with small drilling rigs.
